Sunday, September 18, soak up El Paso’s “Chicano culture, traditions, and history” at the 18th annual Lincoln Park Day celebration.

From Zoot Suit-wearing vatos to lovingly restored ranflas, the yearly event puts El Chuco’s heritage on display for an afternoon.

Lincoln Park – also known as Chicano Park -- is the grassy area under the Spaghetti Bowl that you've no doubt passed countless times on your way to and from downtown.

Part of the historic El Segundo Barrio (Spanish for "the Second Neighborhood"), the iconic South Central green-space is known for the colorful murals painted on the freeway columns. ,

The works of art are so El Paso that when actor Wilmer Valderrama, best known for playing foreign exchange student Fez on That 70s Show, was in town for a promotional stop in July of 2021 he posed in front of one of them and shared the photo on his social media.

The park is also home to the historic Lincoln Center, the future site of the Mexican American Cultural Institute.

If you've spent any amount of time in our city you've no doubt seen a lowrider or two cruising the streets of “Chuco Town” in its preferred leisurely manner.

On Lincoln Park Day, you can get up-close and lay eyes on classic rides and “low-lows” during the city’s biggest Lowrider car show. Hosted by Latin Pride car club, the car show will feature local and regional lowriders and car clubs.

El Paso band 96 Proof will be part of the entertainment that will also include Matachines and Ballet Folklorico dance groups, according to the schedule of events posted on the Lincoln Park Conservation Committee Facebook.

A presentation of the "Field of Stars/Campo de Estrellas,” a collection of commemorative flags “honoring champions of social justice” will take place as well. The flags will become part of the permanent collection of the Mexican American Cultural Institute.

Lincoln Park Day is Sunday, September 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is free to attend. Food trucks and vendors will be selling their eats and drinks, but you are also welcome to grill out or picnic in the park.
