Daylight Savings Time Hits Early – How El Paso Can Cope & Enjoy
Daylight Savings Time is coming a little early this year. In a couple of weeks, El Paso "springs forward" to gain some extra daylight and lose a little sleep.
The first half of the twice yearly time change is upon us. It's a little earlier than usual this year, March 8th across most of the country. I say "most" because not everybody shifts.
Hawaii and, (part of), Arizona don't honor DST and 19 other states have started the process to try and stop participating in the time change.
American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, (all US territories), don't change their clocks. Several states want to stop switching back and forth.
Texas still honors the time change but some efforts have been made ... and approved ... for Texas to, someday, do so.
How To Spend That Extra Hour Of Daylight In El Paso
- Go buy sunscreen - extra daylight = extra burn time.
- Extra hour of daylight = extra hour of day drinking.
- Use the extra hour to tie down everything you own for windy season.

- Extra daylight means kids can play outside longer - you're welcome.
- Celebrate the fact that that all your clocks, (dashboard, stove, microwave, etc.), are correct again.
- Enjoy an extra hour of procrastinating.
Help Adjusting To Daylight Saving Time
Go to sleep 15 - 20 minutes earlier each day for 3 or 4 days prior to the time change. Be alert. Experts say the number of accidents, in cars and on the job, goes up as do certain health issues due to sleep deprivation.
