As somebody who visits circle k pretty often, I've never thought of convenience stores as convenient.

It looks like circle k is getting with the times and have installed its first set of self-checkout machines in El Paso.

This is the kind of thing that will drive older El Pasoans crazy, like Buzz Adams, but it's the kind of thing that younger people like me really enjoy.

According to RetailWire.com, they said they were going to do this all the way back in June,

"Alimentation Couche-Tard [June 3rd] said it will deploy more than 10,000 self-checkout machines in 7,000-plus Circle K and Couche-Tard convenience stores over the next three years. Artificial intelligence-powered machines use computer vision to recognize and ring up items without the use of barcodes.

The decision to scale the “Smart Checkout” technology was made after a successful pilot across nearly 500 Circle K locations in the U.S. and Sweden. The technology was also tested at Couche-Tard’s retail innovation lab location at McGill University in Montreal."

One El Paso woman said she was confused by the new technology at local El Paso area Circles k's. She even called it a food warmer that uses infrared technology. I don't think anyone is to blame her because that's exactly what this looks like.

I have no problems with updated technology, as long as it looks like something easy to use. Otherwise, nobody is going to touch it.

Let me know your thoughts. Would Isaac Asimov be proud? Are the aliens really coming to get us? Or should I just get a lot more sleep?
