We've had many bands rock El Paso throughout history. Most bands stick with their same name but on occasion you do see bands change their name during their career. Take the El Paso band Brother Strange. They've been around for quite some time bringing us some heavy sludge metal for their fans.

The last album Brother Strange released was 2019's Witchslayer. They also were signed onto the Hellaphonic Music record label in 2020.

Recently they've had to take a little time off & went through a bit of a lineup change.

  • Steve Salazar - Vocals
  • Mike Mosholder - Guitars
  • Oscar Gomez - Bass
  • Matt Wojciechowski - Drums

But now they're back under a new name & I'll go ahead and let the band describe their new identity:

From the ashes of stoner rock band Brother Strange, rises the darkness of sludge metalers, Ojo Malo. As a heavier sound emerged from new material, it was clear that the death of the Brother Strange spirit was inevitable & a new evil spirit had materialized.

Built around the Mayan/Aztec mythologies, Ojo Malo's thick, distorted, heavy metal evolution, gives a nod to spiritual forefathers Black Sabbath.

Ojo Malo debuted their new name back in June at the Rocking' Bar in El Paso. The reception they got was very positive.

After speaking to Steve & Matt, they did inform me that they are in the process of recording their debut album (they stepped back into the studio this month). They also said that they will have a new song ready for release this upcoming week & once it's out, you can hear it on our local music show Q Connected, Sundays 5-7pm.
