Come celebrate Meowtoberfest today with free cat adoptions at the City of El Paso Animal Services shelter.

The City of El Paso Animal Services shelter is trying to clear the shelter this weekend! Yesterday the shelter celebrated Barktoberfest Saturday with no adoption fees for dogs and now it's the kitties turn!

Kurt Fenstermacher is the interim animal services director and talked to CBS4 about how the shelter is attempting to get the shelter at a 90 percent live-release rate by 2020. Currently the shelter is on track to achieve that goal with a 56% live release rate in August. That is the highest number recorded by the shelter.

The City of El Paso Animal Services shelter is located at 5001 Fred Wilson Avenue. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
