Do Your Part & Find Out- Where Can You Recycle Glass In El Paso?

There are plenty of things you can recycle through your blue bin at your house but there's one thing you can't recycle there- glass. Growing up in California, I always enjoyed separating my recycling into four different crates- glass, paper, aluminum, and plastic. The recycling trucks would come through the community and throw the four recycling crates into separate containers in the recycling truck.

When I moved to New Mexico for college, I was shocked to find out that I couldn't recycle glass anymore from the convenience of my curb. To recycle glass products, I had to drive down to the recycling center to drop off my glass bottles, jars, and other glass products. This was inconvenient and sadly, I found myself recycling glass products less and less.

If there was somewhere more convenient to drop off my glass products, or if I knew of other locations closer to my home, I'd be more likely to recycle them more often. Now, living in El Paso glass still isn't picked up by our recycling trucks but thankfully, listeners chimed in with places they knew we could recycle glass in the city.

Some places you can drop off the glass recyclables to people already know about, like the Citizen Collection Stations across the city:

If you're closer to New Mexico, there is a place there that will take your glass recyclables. You can drop them off at South Central Solid Waste Authority, located at 2855 West Amador Avenue.

An interesting place you can go and recycle your glass s at your local Target store. According to Target, the company has a glass recycling program you can participate in. All you have to do is bring your glass recyclables to your local Target store to have them recycled. The company started the program back in 2010 and it is still going strong.

Remember, when recycling your glass jars, bottles, and anything that could have food or liquid residue, you must rinse out those items first before putting them into the recycling. Recycling is essential and it's important for people to do their part to try and help the environment.

Recycling glass is beneficial not only to the environment but also to our community. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled over and over again and continue to make the same high-quality glass bottles and jars. Not to mention a glass bottle can take about 4,000 years to decompose, possibly longer.
