It's amazing what can be done now with filtration. It wasn't too long ago we did a story on beer that was being made from sewer water. Now we have a whisky that is being made from urine. Elderly diabetic urine, to be exact.

The urine of elderly diabetics is very sugar rich, and James Gilpin is a designer and researcher who has type 1 diabetes. The idea really came from filtering sugar our of urine to use in new medications.

Now if you're thinking that the whisky won't be widely available, you'd be right. It's actually more of an art piece for Gilpin who says it's:

"plausible to suggest that we start utilising our water purification systems in order to harvest the biological resources that our elderly already process in abundance"

So as much as the idea can sound gross, it's really about being able to utilize waste for more uses.
