Dave Grohl: ‘There’s Always Something Cooking’ With Them Crooked Vultures
Them Crooked Vultures gave us one of the 21st Century's more interesting supergroups, but even though it's now been a decade since their only album, Dave Grohl has left the door open for more.
Speaking with The Independent, Grohl says, “Josh [Homme] is one of my best friends. We’re like brothers. We go out and have waffles together. We ride motorcycles. There is nobody I’d rather play drums with. He’s the guy.”
As for bassist John Paul Jones, best known for his work with Led Zeppelin, Grohl says, “There are times when you’ve relaxed into a sofa and you’re not thinking about his time in Led Zeppelin. Then you start playing and you’re immediately reminded that you are a musical speck compared to this man. It’s still hard to accept that I got to play in a band with that guy. Technically we’re still a band.”
Speaking on their current status, Grohl says, “We practice once every decade, and we’re coming up on another decade aren’t we? I don’t have any official news but there’s always something cooking.”
Them Crooked Vultures' self-titled album arrived in November 2009, yielding the singles "New Fang" and "Mind Chaser No Eraser." "New Fang" won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.
