Texas Has a New Museum for Bigfoot and Mothman Fans
I never expected Bigfoot to become a Texas road trip destination.
While I'm not completely sold on the idea that cryptids are real, I've always thought the stories were a lot of fun. There's something entertaining about legends that have managed to survive for generations despite a serious lack of photographic evidence.
Now, those legends have a home in Plano thanks to Texas' newest museum.
Plano's Newest Museum Is Unlike Anything Else in Texas
The North American Cryptid Museum recently opened in Plano, giving Texans a chance to get up close to some of the most famous creatures in folklore!
Located inside Dark Hour Haunted House, the museum features life-sized recreations of cryptids based on eyewitness accounts and reported sightings from across North America. According to the museum, the exhibits are designed to immerse visitors in the stories and environments where these legends originated.
In other words, this isn't your typical museum experience.
Bigfoot and Mothman Have a New Home in Texas
Of course, no cryptid museum would be complete without some of the biggest names in the business.

Visitors can come face-to-face with creatures like Bigfoot and Mothman, both of which have inspired countless books, documentaries, podcasts, and late-night debates over the years.
Whether you're a believer or a skeptic, there's something undeniably fascinating about creatures that have managed to stay part of popular culture for decades.
On a side note; if someone ever does prove Bigfoot exists, a lot of people are going to owe their weird uncle an apology!
The Chupacabra Has Found a Home in Texas
As a Texan, I was especially happy to see the Chupacabra included among the museum's featured creatures.
For years, it seemed like every mysterious animal sighting in Texas eventually got blamed on the legendary goat-sucker. A hairless coyote? Chupacabra. A strange animal caught on a trail camera? Chupacabra. Weird noises outside the house at 2 a.m.? Also somehow Chupacabra!
At this point, the creature feels less like a monster and more like an unofficial member of Texas folklore.
Real or not, it's earned its place in a Texas museum.
One of Texas' Strangest New Attractions Is Now Open
What I appreciate most about the museum is that it celebrates the stories as much as the creatures themselves.

Cryptids have always occupied that strange space between folklore, mystery, and pop culture. People may disagree on whether these creatures actually exist, but there's no denying the stories have captured imaginations for generations.
Will a visit to Plano convince me Bigfoot is real? Probably not.
But if I ever find myself in North Texas looking for something a little different to do, I'll absolutely be stopping by to see what he's been up to.
