I found another article about sleep, so I had to share... for Buzz. Here are some common myths about sleep.

  1. Five hours of sleep or less a night is fine. This one is dangerous because if you believe this and are only getting at most 5 hours of sleep a night. Getting 5 hours of sleep a night or less can increase your risk of heart disease and early death.
  2. It's awesome being able to fall asleep anywhere. Do you have that friend you're jealous of because they can just fall asleep, seemingly on a whim? Well, don't be jealous, it means they aren't sleeping enough at night, or may have a sleep disorder.
  3. Your brain and body can adapt to less sleep. The lack of sleep will affect your brain and body but not in a good way. In can actually lead to serious health problems if you aren't getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night.
  4. Snoring is annoying, but basically harmless. Yes, it is annoying, but it isn't harmless. Loud snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea, which can lead to all kinds of other health issues like heart attacks, diabetes, and cancer.
  5. Drinking alcohol before bed helps you sleep. Well, you will pass out, but it won't be good. You'll fall asleep, but you won't get into the deep sleep you need. So no matter how long you've been "asleep", you'll still wake up tired.
