Texas Heat And Snakes Tested ‘Yellowstone’ Stars on Set
Rip Wheeler doesn't scare easily.
For six seasons of Yellowstone, we've watched him survive bar fights, ranch wars, and just about every problem Montana could throw at him. But now that the Duttons have packed up and headed to Texas, and it sounds like the Lone Star State immediately started putting him through his paces.
And according to Cole Hauser, it started with the heat.
Texas Heat Put Rip Wheeler To The Test
Cole Hauser, who reprises his role as fan-favorite ranch hand Rip Wheeler in Dutton Ranch, recently opened up about filming the series in Texas- and it sounds like the weather became a co-star.
Speaking with People, Hauser revealed that production began during a stretch of 106-degree temperatures. That's not exactly ideal when you're trying to maintain the rugged look of a working cowboy.
According to Hauser, he typically gains about 25 pounds before filming to look the part. The problem? Texas had other plans. The actor said the extreme heat made it difficult to keep the weight on because he was constantly sweating and burning through calories while working outdoors.
The Texas Heat Wasn't The Only Thing Waiting
This latest revelation comes just weeks after Hauser and co-star Kelly Reilly stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show and shared another memorable part of filming in Texas.
The snakes. Lots and lots of snakes!
During the interview, Hauser revealed that snake wranglers removed roughly 3,400 rattlesnakes from filming locations during the show's eight-month production schedule in North Texas. At one point, a night shoot reportedly had to be paused after dozens of rattlesnakes were discovered nearby.
Suddenly, the 106-degree weather doesn't seem quite so bad.
Dutton Ranch Is Getting The Full Texas Experience
The challenges almost sound like something straight out of the show itself.
Dutton Ranch follows Rip and Beth as they leave Montana behind and start a new chapter in Texas. While the characters are adjusting to a completely different way of life, it sounds like the cast got a crash course in Texas living as well.
Triple-digit heat. Ice storms. Thousands of rattlesnakes.
That's not a production schedule. That's a Texas starter pack!
Montana may have made Rip Wheeler tough, but Texas apparently decided that wasn't tough enough.
And if the cast survived months of heat, storms, and 3,400 rattlesnakes, they may have earned honorary Texan status by the time the cameras stopped rolling.
