Want to start, or maintain, the family tradition of cutting down your own, live Christmas tree? Here are some spots near El Paso where you can do it.

Just like in many of those overly sweet, sappy Christmas holiday movies, you too can load up the family and go Christmas tree hunting. Despite El Paso's total lack of wild Christmas trees, there are still plenty to be had nearby.

A live, freshly cut Christmas tree could be yours for under $15. The Lincoln National Forest, about 2 hours from El Paso via US-54/highway 70 is the perfect place to tree hunt. The Gila National Forest is also about 2 hours away via I-10 west/US-180.

Just don't go all Griswold and get some monstrous, animal infested one.

Permits are $10 plus a $2.50 processing fee, get yours here. Once you've paid, be sure to print the permit and bring it with you. Be sure you download and read all the rules and guidelines too.
