You Can Find the Real London Bridge in the State of Arizona
Yes believe it or not, the state of Arizona is ALSO home to the London Bridge. Somewhere in the middle of the Southwest desert, you WILL find a bridge that was formerly owned by the UK that is now owned by the United States. And to find this piece of American/British history, you just need to travel to Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Why does Arizona have the London Bridge?
Someone bought it...no joke. An entrepreneur from St. Louis named Robert P. McCulloch was visiting London in 1968, was looking for an attraction to build in a new town in Arizona. On his visit, he came across the famous London Bridge that would spanned the Thames River. The old bridge was sinking into the land & instead of destroying it, London decided to auction off the bridge, so they can make way for the NEW London Bridge.
Robert actually WON and bought the bridge for a (low low price) of $2.4million, plus an extra $60,000.
Today the London Bridge has a new home; along the shore of Lake Havasu & it's been in Arizona since October 10, 1971. Today it considered one of the top tourist attractions to visit in the whole state, along with the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley & Horseshow Bend
The London Bridge has also been known to be bit of a tv & movie star; it has appeared in films like Falling Down, Million Dollar Mystery, the London Bridge even appeared on Ghost Adventures in 2010 as it's been said to be haunted.
Arizona isn't the only state with a truly unique connection with London, Texas has its OWN connection even before it became a state. You can read that story here.
