Apple Picking Fun Is Just a Short Drive From El Paso
Apple season is here, and you can be picking your own in less than 2 hours.
The late summer family-friendly activity is not only a fun excuse to get out of the city for the day, but it’s also an excellent way to eat fresh and support local area farms.
Nichols Ranch and Orchards outside of Alamogordo in the cool Sacramento Mountains is one of the U-Pick orchards a short driving distance from here offering El Pasoans the opportunity to enjoy the mountain views and make some memories while picking delicious apples.
The family-run farm grows some of the more popular apple varieties such as Gala, Golden Supreme, and Honeycrisp that are perfect for eating raw, baking, and applesauce making.
But keep in mind the apples they grow don't all ripen at once so before you visit, I recommend following the links I've included below or calling to confirm there are apples to pick, and which type (if you're wanting a specific variety).
What to Know If You Plan to Go
This year the orchard will open for the season starting Friday, August 12, and run through October.
The price for U-Pick Apples is $2 per pound. Pears are also available at $2 per pound, and they offer ready-made apple pies, cider, jams, and jellies as well.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash, check, or card payments are accepted. Well-behaved dogs are allowed provided they remain on leash and you pick up after them
