Born in Texas: The Film That Changed Horror Forever
Released in 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn’t just another horror movie. Shot in Texas and inspired by the state’s unsettling folklore, the low-budget film became a cultural phenomenon, forever changing the horror genre and cementing Leatherface as one of the most recognizable villains in movie history.
What started as a gritty, independent Texas production would go on to influence decades of filmmakers, shaping modern horror and proving that some of the most terrifying stories don’t need massive budgets- just atmosphere, tension, and raw fear.
A24 Takes the Chainsaw Into a New Era
Now, the franchise is entering a new phase under A24, a studio known for elevated, filmmaker-driven horror. The plan is to lead with a new television series that allows for a deeper, long-form exploration of the Texas Chainsaw universe.
Rather than remaking the original film, the goal is to expand the world and mythology surrounding it. Original co-creator Kim Henkel is involved in the project, helping ensure that this next chapter respects the legacy that made the franchise iconic in the first place. And to top it off, Texas-native Glen Powell will also be producing.
