12-Foot Syrian Refugee Puppet Will Make Stop In El Paso This Fall
Standing at a giant 12-foot tall, Little Amal isn't so little.
She's a living piece of artwork, able to walk among the people and even shake hands with children.
Little Amal looks like a young 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, created to bring awareness about immigration and migration in the world.
She's already been to countries around the world including Turkey, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, and the U.K., and will make her way across the pond to the United States this September.
Little Amal will arrive in Boston on September 7th, according to the AP, and you can join Amal in one of the largest free public festivals ever created.
As she walks across America, Amal will make stops in key cities, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
While in Texas, Little Amal will be displayed in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso. Amal's stop in El Paso is planned for October 25th and 26th, according to CBS 4 News in El Paso.
Little Amal will travel over 6,000 miles and to 35 cities while she visits the United States.
According to the Walk With Amal website, she has already traveled to 13 different countries and met more than a million people on her journey.
The organizers' hopes are that Amal can help make a difference in the world:
"Amal’s journeys of art and hope celebrate the rich stories of refugees, immigrants, and displaced people, and the communities that welcome them."
