Ideal, Money Saving Temp For Summer In El Paso

El Paso is about to hit the mega - hot season, do you know what the ideal temp to keep your thermostat is?

From now through, oh, Thanksgiving, (I'm kidding about the "through Thanksgiving" thing ... kinda), it's going to be pretty damn hot around the 915. If you want your house cool and comfy but go easy on your electric bill too, experts say 78 is the magic number.

In a perfect world, I'd set my thermostat at 70. Tops, upper 60's ideally. (I like it cold, not cool. Cold.) I don't do that though because, if I did, I'd never be home to enjoy it. My 2nd, "pay the electric bill" job would take up all my free time. There is a way to stay cool and save though.

When it comes to going easy on your electricity consumption, experts say 78 degrees is where you want your thermostat while you're home and 80 when you're away for long periods of time like work or school.

How To Save On Utility Bills

•  Keep up with air filter changes.
• During the summer, use major appliances 8pm.
• Fill that spare fridge. The less you have in your refrigerator, the more energy it uses trying to stay cool.
• If 78 and 80 don't work for you, get as close as possible. Even a 1 degree shift can save up to 3%.

Be consistent. Whatever temps you decide on, leave them there. Avoid "hopping" around and especially avoid big changes. 77 - 75 isn't as hard on your wallet as 80 - 70.
