Of the top 10 cheapest counties to live in Texas, 2 are near El Paso. They're not IN El Paso because our taxes are HUGE but they're really close.

Texas has fairly low tax rates and no state income tax so it's a pretty affordable place to live. When it comes to living cheap, the lone star state is a pretty good place to be. We're the best place to be for first time home buyers but property taxes can be a little above the national average. (Texas' 1.47% vs. .90% nationally)

If you want to pay the lowest taxes in the state, Kiplinger listed the top 10 fer 'ya.

Property taxes vary across the lone star state so Kiplinger decided to cut to the chase and let us know where in Texas property taxes are the lowest. This is a list I doubt you'll EVER see El Paso on. The 915 overlords are way tax happy, (they have actually been sued over the taxes they impose), but a couple of the cheapest areas are pretty close.
