With Temperatures Rising, El Pasoans Can Request A Free Fan This Summer

Welp, temperatures are heating up outside which means indoor temperatures can get even hotter this time of the season especially if your air conditioner isn’t the greatest.

Afternoon high’s this week are expected to reach triple digit heat with a few 90 degree temperatures sprinkled in there, but even though highs are in the triple digits, temperatures in the 90s can be dangerous, too.

Now, I am definitely NOT a fan of the extreme heat, but I am a fan of people helping others in need during extreme weather!

The Extreme Weather Task Force has officially kicked off their Summer Fan Drive initiative. This initiative is a way for the task force to ensure that people in our community without a working air conditioner are able to get a free fan to relieve them from the heat this Summer season.

“We focus on helping the elderly, small infant children and persons with disabilities who do not have adequate cooling in their home,” said task force representatives.

Those who meet the criteria for a free fan are asked to call 2-1-1 to register for the free fan. Free fans ARE NOT given out at local fire stations so those in need are strongly encouraged to call 2-1-1 to get more information on how they can receive their free fan.

As of now, the Extreme Weather Task Form has collected over 200 fans, but they are hoping the community can donate more fans so they will have enough free fans to provide to those in need.

If you would like to donate a fan you can do so by dropping your fan donation off at any El Paso or Horizon Fire Station.
