What to Expect When Fred Loya Light Show Debuts at Ascarate Park
You may have heard the Fred Loya Christmas Lights show is making a return this holiday season.
The insurance businessman and El Paso Commissioners Court recently agreed on a partnership that will revive the Christmas tradition after a two-year pandemic pause — but at a new venue.
Instead of lighting up his East Side home as he’s done for nearly a decade, the extravagant synchronized music and light show is moving to Ascarate Park to light up the lake instead.
How Much Will It Cost?
When word first got out, many El Pasoans were skeptical wondering how it was going to work and how much it would cost. Let’s start with the how much.
The answer is nothing.
The light show will still be free to see, and the county is going to waive parking and entrance fees.
The New Light Show
With no house to light up, what exactly will the music and lights be synchronized to? Numerous holiday displays and festive lawn decorations, I'm told.
Loya-house favorites like the photo stations and crowd-pleasing appearances by Santa and the Grinch will return, too.
Show Nights & Light Nights
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will be show nights featuring the animated music and light show El Pasoans have come to love and enjoy from Fred Loya.
Monday through Thursday the light displays and holiday decorations will be turned on, but no light show.
