If you are looking for a family adventure you can do close to home before the kids head back to the classroom, the El Paso County Parks and Recreation department is hosting an overnight family camp out at the end of July in celebration of National Park & Recreation month.

Outdoor activities and summer go hand in hand, but, as hot as the days are around here, becoming one with nature in the evening is a much more comfortable option. And doing it under the starry El Paso sky is a major bonus.

“Bear-Foot in the Park” is the name of the event El Paso County Parks & Recreation is holding for families at Ascarate Park

The overnight family adventure includes a moonlight swim session just before midnight, all-ages overnight fishing tournament, and a movie. Several food trucks will be on-site for those who don't want to pack more than a coolers worth of food and drink.

And if you don’t want to rough it in the open or in a tent, they’ll allow you to glamp it in your RV. Picnic shelters with power will be available to rent starting at $50 for the night.
