Fast food outlets rely more and more on drive up windows and the Walmart locations don't offer those. In 2021, 90% of the McDonalds locations that closed were in Walmart stores. Another blow for McDonalds is their prices have risen 100% since 2014.
In an effort to save the food side of things, as well as the rental income they generate, Walmart are looking at other restaurants like Taco Bell and Dominoes. On top of trying to up their food game, Walmart is going through a pretty big makeover overall.
The upgrades include updated interiors and exteriors, new checkout designs, bigger and more centrally located pharmacies, new paint, new signs and more.
