The new rule is meant to speed up entry time, limit personal contact and more.

The University of Texas at El Paso has announced a new bag policy for the 2020 - 2021 sports season(s). From here on out, your goody bag will have to be clear. So much for that bottle of tequila I was planning to slip in with.

The rule will, obviously, help with keeping contraband like weapons, booze, etc out but; it will also help in other ways. Allowing only clear bags will enable them to be inspected by security not only quicker but, also with little to no physical contact. This also allows for the proper social distancing now being called for and will also keep the lines moving faster. The rules for allowable bags, according to the El Paso Herald-Post, are:

  • Bags (including clear backpacks) that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch bag approximately the size of a hand (4.5″ x 6.5″ or smaller), with or without a handle or strap. This can be carried separately or within a plastic bag
  • Medical bags that contain health necessary items are acceptable after proper inspection and approval from venue personnel/security

The new policy will be in effect at all football home games as well as both men's and women's basketball, volleyball and soccer games. For a list of prohibited items and to read other FAQ's, click here.
