Las Cruces Named Best College Town In New Mexico
According to World Atlas, El Paso's neighbor, Las Cruces, is the best college town in the entire state of New Mexico.
The 2nd largest city in the land of enchantment, for now anyway, is home to New Mexico State University and the NMSU Aggies.
Don't let Las Cruces' status as the 2nd biggest city in New Mexico throw you, it still has a really cool, small town vibe as it's population is only around 115,000 peeps. We're not talking San Antonio here.
NMSU is almost as old as Las Cruces itself. The city was established in 1849 and the university was established less than 40 years later in 1888.
The university began with a small enrolment of fewer than 40 students, drawn for courses related to agriculture (a nod to the state’s farming roots) as well as engineering and sciences, all areas it remains strong into this day.
Its establishment in Las Cruces was no coincidence, as the town’s strategic location and strong community support made it an ideal choice for New Mexico’s land-grant institution. Located just minutes from downtown Las Cruces and close to the intersection of the I-25 and I-10, major highways connecting it to Albuquerque, El Paso, and Tucson, NMSU has grown into a sprawling 900-acre campus that’s home to over 14,000 students, plus numerous faculty and staff. - worldatlas
There's lots to do in Cruces and its proximity to El Paso and Juarez offers plenty of other off campus entertainment. Only around 30 miles away, there are tons things to do and see in El Paso and throughout the area.
