UTEP Basketball’s 2nd C-USA Game Against Middle Tennessee is Postponed Due to COVID
COVID-19 strikes once again. This time, it's not on UTEP's side.
The Miners men's basketball team's second Conference USA matchup against Middle Tennessee has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases within the Blue Raider program. MTSU's entire squad is fully vaccinated.
C-USA will attempt to reschedule the game at a later date, per the release. In 2020, C-USA prioritized making up key inter-division games. For example, UTEP's contest at Florida Atlantic last year was canceled due to COVID-19 and was never made up since the Miners (west) and Owls (east) didn't play in the same division.
"When you have a plan in place, it plays with your mind a little," said first-year head coach Joe Golding. "You don't know when it's coming. Fortunately for us, [MTSU's cancellation] happened early and we're able to make travel arrangements to come back."
Golding told reporters on Tuesday that UTEP is fully vaccinated and players are awaiting booster shots.
The Miners (7-5) will face off C-USA's top team in UAB on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. MT. Voice of the Miners Jon Teicher will be on the call and MinerTalk will follow the broadcast on 600 ESPN El Paso.
The game was originally set for a 12 p.m. tip-off at Middle Tennessee on Saturday. The UTEP women's basketball team will play MTSU at 1 p.m. and that game can be heard on the Miners App.
