The Mount Rushmore of…Famous Rabbits and Bunnies
In honor of Easter our Monday Mount Rushmore is about honoring members of the leporidae family…a.k.a.: bunnies and rabbits. We decided to not include people, such as musician Eddie Rabbitt or Bad Bunny. We’re limiting our scope to long-floppy-ears, puffy cottontail rabbits although THEY can be fictional. So, for our purposes a “rabbit” couldn’t be a Playboy bunny but it COULD be THE Playboy Bunny. Confused? So were we.
Here’s the list we came up with.
1.) Bugs Bunny
An argument could be made that Bugs Bunny is THE greatest cartoon character of all time. I don’t know about that but Bugs is a big enough star that he belongs on The Rabbit Mount Rushmore.
2.) The Easter Bunny
We were doing this whole rabbit-centric theme in honor of the Easter Bunny so it only makes sense to include him. Her? Are the Easter Bunny and Peter Cottontail the same thing? So many questions…that I’m glad I don’t have to answer.
3.) The White Rabbit
Specifically, the one from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”. He’s a literary figure. He’s been portrayed in numerous movies and television specials. He’s the main character in one of the trippiest drug songs of the Sixties. He’s on this list!
4.) The Energizer Bunny
There are a few rabbits that are global marketing icons: The Playboy Logo, the Trix Rabbit…but the Energizer Bunny is the only marketing icon that was SO effective it made everyone forget that it was a direct rip-off of a competitor’s mascot.
