The Mexican Food Cook-Off, presented by Metro PCS is back. The cook-off is held on Friday, Sept. 18 in downtown at the Union Plaza. Come out and eat, drink, and celebrate all that the Mexican culture has to offer.

WHAT: The Mexican Food Cook-Off

WHEN: Sept. 18  – 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

WHERE: Union Plaza in Downtown El Paso

COST: $3 or Free when you pick up a Metro PCS pass (available at any El Paso Metro PCS location)

This isn’t just a food competition, it’s a fiesta! The cook-off also featuring the Battle of the Rock N Roll Mariachis on the Coors Light Stage.

TFCU food coins will be sold for only $2 each. Use these tokens to buy endless amounts of food, drinks, and ice cold beer from our vendors.

Area chefs, and restaurateurs will be competing in the categories of Enchiladas, Tacos and Open Dish. The competition judging is closed to the public, but you can enter for your chance to be a judge on the panel. Keep a look out, we’ll be hosting a contest for winners to judge the cook-off very soon, all thanks to Western Tech.

Events:

The popular Mariachi group, Los Arrieros will be closing out the night with a performance of their own so bring your lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the music.

Don’t miss the Western Tech car show which will highlight area low riders and customized vehicles with prizes awarded to the best car in the show.

And check out the fun at the Loteria Tent, featuring games throughout the evening, it’s free to participate, and there will be a variety of prizes to choose from.  The loteria tent will be located in the Mercadito area, where local artisans will be selling and displaying their goods. Plus, stop by and take a photo at the Ruhmann Law Firm photo booth!

Spice up the night by checking out the Margarita Shake-Off right outside the event gates, inside of the Garden. Bartenders from Tabla, 1914, Dark Horse and The Garden will mix their specialty drinks, but only one will be named the winner! Don't worry about having to pay to come back into the event, if you go to the Margarita Shake-Off, you'll be permitted back into through the gates. What's more- The Garden, Tabla, Dark Horse and 1914 are the official after party locations for the event, stop by for great themed drinks!
