First Grader Bakes Way to Victory at Texas State Fair!
The State Fair of Texas will soon be underway, but for many out there, the competitions have already begun! Now, imagine beating every adult in a contest and you're only seven years old?
That's exactly what happened with seven-year-old Allen Gage, from Mabank, Texas- who just won the grand prize blue ribbon with his homemade blueberry pie at the State Fair of Texas! His win guarantees him a spot in "Best of Show" in October!
One of the main attractions at the State Fair of Texas is, of course, the food! There are so many different food competitions, and for Gage, his dedication and determination ended up landing him the coveted blue ribbon!
Gage had the help of his wonderful grandma, Penny, who was the first person to show him how to use a rolling pin, and helped Gage perfect that homemade flaky crust! Penny also won pie contests, as did Gage's mom! A family of bakers, the legend lived on with Gage whose blueberry pie beat out nearly 240 other pies!
This isn't Gage's first foray into the competitive world of pies, he started at the Kaufman County Fair where he was named “Grand Champion” and his pie sold for $725 — and that was just competing in his own division, age 7 and under!
The win for the first grader made everyone happy, not just Gage's family. Sara Smith, who came in third place, told ABC News:
I got a blue ribbon for a peach pie many, many, many years ago -- I think I was 11 -- so Allen is beating me by quite a few years by getting this at 7 years old, that's so awesome.
Come October, Gage will be the youngest person ever to qualify for the fair's "Best of Show".
