Do you toss and turn when you're just trying to get a good night's rest? Do you live in Texas? Well, you're not alone! Texans are struggling to get a good night's rest and a new study has proof.

We all know that the recommended amount of sleep needed is seven to eight hours, well, it looks like Texans are not even getting that. According to a new study from leading online sleep retailer, MattressNextDay, in their Sleep Hygiene Report, Texas residents average only 6.54 hours of sleep per night, falling short of the seven-hour minimum recommended by the Sleep Foundation.

So, what's keeping Texans from getting a full night's sleep?

The report examined bedtime habits and found that sleep interruptions are a huge area of concern. hat 14% of Texas residents do not maintain a regular bedtime even during weekdays. Respondents reported waking up an average of 2.48 times each night. And what is causing Texans to wake up in the middle of the night? The main culprit: waking up to go to the restroom!

65% of Texans say they wake up to use the facilities. Other causes for waking up include thirst (22%), room being too hot (22%) and bad dreams and worries about the following day’s to-do list (15%). As someone who has lived in Texas her entire life, I can agree with waking up because the room is too hot!

Notably, the study found that sleep time increases slightly on weekends to 7.22 hours- as many of us Texans attempt to catch up on sleep; which I am guilty of! So what are Texans doing to actually help them get to sleep? While remedies like a warm beverage or a relaxation app fall low on the list of remedies, watching TV came at the top of the list, 48% of respondents said they watch TV or stream shows as their nightly routine.
