Texas Rangers Pull New Hat After Unintentional Spanish Slur
With baseball season right around the corner, some of our favorite MLB teams are releasing their new merch, but in the case of the Texas Rangers, they probably should have had a Spanish consultant on hand!
If you didn't know Spanish before this mishap, you most certainly do now! Well, you'll at least know one word! According to ESPN, the Texas Rangers had to pull their new cap off online stores after many pointed out that it contained a vulgar Spanish word!
As part of their "New Era's Overlap 5950" collection, the Rangers' signature block "T" that appears on the team's caps was superimposed over the middle "X" in the block "Texas" logo that usually appears on the front of the team's jerseys.
It may be a little hard to visualize, but, luckily, we have proof before the cap got taken down!
I'm sure that the design was meant to highlight the "T" in Texas- but, instead, it looks like it spells out "Tetas" instead of "Texas".
Now, all my fellow Spanish speakers know exactly what that word is- but it would appear as though no one told the marketing team, or whoever was in charge of design! The word is a vulgar word for a woman's breasts! So, essentially, the hat said "boobs" well, actually it said "t*ts".
According to ESPN, other teams with a similar overlap design, like the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels, still have their caps on sale- however, I'm sure none of them accidentally spelled out a vulgar word in Spanish! I just want to know who approved it- and if you were lucky enough to grab one, I'm going to need to see it!
