An old tv commercial for salsa summed up how most peeps in Texas feel about the big apple in one simple sentence.

It was a Pace Picante sauce commercial from the early 90's in which a group of cowboys complain to their cook about how bad his food is.

When they find out that he gets his salsa from New York City, they turn on him and an unamused cowboy snarls, "get a rope".

Texans don't play when it comes to their cooking. I doubt they'd really hang somebody over salsa but feelings can run a little hot between residents of the 2 states. In fact, being super proud of their state is probably the only area where there is equality.

Honestly, and not just because I am a way proud Texan, I really do think the lone star outshines the big apple in almost every way. New York has its share of "flash", all the really cool skyscrapers and the statue of liberty but that's about it really.

Texas has plenty on the way of arts, entertainment and culture with a big chunk of it nestled up against the country of Mexico adding even more coolness to Texas' score. Not to mention much better weather, lakes, beaches, wide open spaces, pretty much every type of terrain and climate and, in general, friendlier people.

The Area Where Texas REALLY Shuts NYC Down Is The Cost Of Living.

An average 2 bedroom apartment in Dallas rents for $1588 per month and a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home will set you back $485,750  Vs. $5,743 and $2,743,333 in NYC. (413% higher)

A gallon of gas in Dallas runs $3.22 while NYC pays $4.02 (33% higher). Groceries run about 14% higher, entertainment costs are about 17% higher and healthcare is up 20%.

The last time I visited New York, the cheapest beer we found barhopping was a $9 pint and a shot of Hornitos ranged $12 - $15 a pop. Pints get as low as $2 around here and the shots can be down around $3 or $4.

As far as I'm concerned, Texas wins on that alone.
