Texas Is 22nd State With The Biggest Increase In Unemployment

According to a new report, the state of Texas has seen the 22nd biggest increase in unemployment claims due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The novel coronavirus has brought the U.S. economy to its knees. Countless businesses have closed their doors, a portion for good, and many workers have been laid off or furloughed due to the economy's uncertainty. This has caused a steep increase in the number of unemployment claims across the nation. According to CNN, 22 million Americans have filed first-time unemployment claims since mid-March. The stimulus checks are currently being given to Americans, but people all over are still going to have trouble making ends meet.

The personal-finance website WalletHub crunched the numbers to see what states were hit especially hard when it comes to unemployment numbers. The coronavirus pandemic has already caused 2.5 times more job losses than the Great Recession between 2010 and 2020, according to the site. WalletHub used the number of unemployment claims in each state to find the most impacted states.
