If you're looking for a good ghost story, you don't have to look further than our home state, Texas!

Texas has a very haunted history, and growing up in El Paso, I've definitely heard my fair share of ghost stories! One scary story we all heard? The Monk on Transmountain.

Transmountain road, also known as state highway 375, is one of those roads in El Paso that doesn't even feel like it's part of El Paso. Considered one of the fastest ways to get from one end of town to the other, Transmountain road is also considered one of the most haunted roads in Texas.

I'm sure many of us who grew up here have heard of the monk and his donkey on Transmountain Road. If driving in the middle of the night and you see him, you are subject to a car accident.

According to backpackverse.com, Transmountain Road comes in at number 2 on their list of the Most Terrifying Haunted Roads in Texas. Backpackverse credits the monk and his donkey as the reason to why that road is haunted saying:

According to local legend, a monk and his donkey perished around Trans Mountain road centuries ago.

Both spirits are said to haunt the road to this day. While many who have witnessed the donkey’s ghost said they did not feel uneasy or scared by the apparition, they have said the monk is another story.

El Paso residents believe the monk sinned before dying, and torments the living from the inferno. Many have said that the monk will appear in their room at night, calling upon the devil to appear.

Okay, I had only heard of the monk and the donkey on the road, but had never heard that the monk could appear in your room at night! That's way scarier!

I can definitely agree that Transmountain road is scary at night- with the speed you're traveling on that road, the monk and the donkey are kind of a "blink and you'll miss it" moment. But if you do see them, beware.
