Over 6,000 different people have climbed the treacherous Mount Everest & a few of those name have hailed from Texas. Each of those names have had an amazing story to tell. Of course you don't need ME telling you how dangerous it is climbing Mount Everest; it's one of the tallest mountains in the world and sadly...not everyone makes it.

Nevertheless, here are some amazing Texas climbers who can say they've all conquered climbing Mount Everest.

Roxanne (Roxy) Vogul

A Texas Woman's University alum, Roxanne Vogul, climbed Mt Everest on May 22, 2019. It took her 2 weeks to climb the top of Mount Everest & back down again.

Richard Bass

Originally born in Tulsa, Richard Bass would live most of his life in Dallas, Texas when his family moved in 1932. Richard would become the first man to climb the "Seven Summits" & the oldest man to climb Mount Everest at the age of 55. Richard would live all the way to the age of 85 before he would pass away on July 26, 2015.

Kayla Perez

After climbing some of the biggest mountains in North & South America, The El Paso native, Kayla Perez, climbed Mount Everest in May of 2024. We even got to talk to her where we asked her about experience & how she managed to do it. She told us that despite having many physical issues & a slight fear of heights, she was able to do it on a 2month journey. You can see more of her journey & read her story here.

One more noteworthy story is how Beck Weathers survived the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster

You can't talk about Texas climbers & Mount Everest together without mentioning Beck Weathers; the Dallas pathologist who climbed the mountain and survived the intense blizzard on the mountain that occurred on May 10 & 11th. He was one of the climbers who amazingly survived the harrowing disaster. While he didn't reach the top, he DID have an amazing story of survival to tell afterwards.
