This started as a joke. Now people are packing parks for it!

Celebrity look-alike contests may be one of the more unexpected trends to escape the internet. What started with crowds searching for a Timothée Chalamet look-alike in New York somehow turned into full-blown events centered around Hollywood heartthrobs, drawing hundreds of people hoping to witness lightning strike twice.

And now, Texas has officially joined the search.

Texas Is Officially Joining The Celebrity Look Alike Craze

Dallas recently hosted its own Jacob Elordi look-alike contest at Reverchon Park, proving that this trend has officially moved beyond internet curiosity and into real-world entertainment.

More than 100 people reportedly showed up for the event, with crowds gathering in hopes of finding someone who could convincingly pull off Jacob Elordi's famously tall, charming and impossibly-hard-to-recreate presence.

Look like finding the next best thing to one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs is now a perfectly acceptable Friday night activity. I respect the commitment.

Dallas Found A Jacob Elordi Winner- Sort Of

Unfortunately, Jacob Elordi himself did not suddenly appear in Dallas.

Instead, the contest crowned Marcello Pelton, a 6-foot-4 Southern Methodist University graduate student studying international relations. Reports say Pelton speaks fluent Italian, cooks and competes in Iron Man races, which feels like an unfair amount of accomplishments for one person.

Did he look exactly like Jacob Elordi?

Not exactly.

Even Pelton reportedly admitted that himself. But judging by the crowd reaction, height and confidence carried a lot of weight.

After winning, he reportedly posed for photos with attendees, took home a $50 prize and an Oscar-shaped trophy and probably left with enough confidence to carry him through the rest of the year!

These Celebrity Contests Keep Getting Bigger

Part of what makes this funny is how quickly these contests have grown.

The original Timothée Chalamet contest became such a spectacle that it helped launch similar events around the country, each searching for celebrity doubles and usually attracting crowds eager to participate in the chaos.

However, it seems that the actual winner rarely seems to be the person who looks exactly like the celebrity. The winner usually ends up being the contestant with the right combination of charm, confidence and "close enough."

Dallas appears to have followed the formula perfectly.

I’m Slightly Jealous El Paso Hasn't Had One Yet

Now I do have one complaint.

Where is El Paso's celebrity look-alike contest?

I wasn't exactly president of the Jacob Elordi fan club before. But after seeing his Frankenstein performance, I get it now. Consider me won over.

And now I'm a little jealous Dallas got a chaotic Friday night searching for Jacob Elordi while El Paso got nothing!

Not that I'm campaigning for one. I’m just saying if El Paso suddenly announced a celebrity look-alike contest tomorrow, I would have some questions- and also immediately want to know who we're choosing.
