Texans, especially those in El Paso, LUV their avocados. Heads up though, those squishy little guys can mess you up if you're not paying attention.

Just about everyone, I'm totally the exception, loves avocados. (Not me ... can't stand 'em, never could, never will.) As tasty as they are, they also come with a risk.

Avocados and human beings share a common enemy and that has led to something happening so frequently that doctors and hospital peeps have given it a specific name.

Avocados are a big deal these days thanks to their availability and a ton of health benefits. They're so good for you, you can make "healthy" ice cream out of them. Just like the greatest quarterback in the known, (and unknown), universe, Tom Brady, does.

Anyway, they're a thing but they come with one little chore that sends about 24 peeps to emergency rooms all over the country EVERY DAY.

They have a big pit in them and removing it the wrong way can result in "Avocado Hand". If you hold ot in your hand and use a sharp knife to remove it, it can easily slip through the avocado and right through your hand.

That can cause, in addition to the pain, heavy bleeding and big medical bills. Farther down the line you could lose the ability to flex your fingers, lose sensation in them, have trouble closing your fist and not be able to use your hand nornally. Surgery and therapy could also be needed.

Your hand is loaded with nerves and tendons that control way more than just making a fist. For best results, you should use a butter knife to "get 'da pit". Putting it on a cutting board and cutting it lengthwise is probably the safest way to do it.

Artists Who Got Injured While Performing

While we've all seen a singer take a spill and get right back with only a minor bump or bruise, some onstage accidents are just so brutally, painfully bad that they end up sending the superstar straight to the emergency room.
