No, this isn't the usual tax free weekend, this is the 2016 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday. Which, kinda makes me wonder if they know something we don't.

Texas offers a special tax free weekend every year, usually about the same time school starts. This weekend, (4/23-4/25), they're offering us a second tax free weekend aimed at emergency supplies.

Pay no sales tax on: generators, certain household batteries, first aid kits, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, hurricane shutters, emergency ladders, (what's the difference between an emergency ladder and a non-emergency ladder??) and other emergency supplies.

Not everything counts though, click here to see the list. I don't know why Texas is suddenly so concerned with our disaster stashes but, I doubt it has anything to do with the zombie apocalypse. If it did, crossbows and chain wrapped bats would have also made the list!
