A list of the coolest desert towns in The United States is out and a couple of El Paso's neighbors are on it! The list, compiled for Travel And Leisure Magazine, includes classic old west mining towns like Virginia City, Nevada and Winslow, Arizona, made famous by The Eagles in their song "Take It Easy".

Other sweet spots on the list are Grand Junction, Colorado and Moab, Utah.  Moab was the destination point for my first, large scale, motorcycle ride.  Best. Time. Ever.

There's no place like home though and a couple of El Paso neighbors made the list!  Marfa, one of the best kept secrets in the desert southwest, for instance! Home of the Marfa Lights and setting for movies like Giant, No Country For Old Men and more.  Not to mention an incredible art and music scene!

Silver City -- Oh hell yeah!  If you have a motorcycle, you owe it to yourself to take I-25 through Cruces, follow the signs to Hillsboro and then ride over the mountain into Silver City from there.

I think Cloudcroft and Ruidoso deserve mention.  Mesilla as well, not to mention Columbus, New Mexico, raided once by Pancho Villa, and Carlsbad Caverns, raided nightly in summer by billions of bats!

And, if Winslow, Arizona got a nod, where the hell is Tombstone? Another sweet ride! Any other places you think should be on a list like this? Should we start our own list of great desert towns or, let our "best kept secrets" stay "secret"?
