Rep. Escobar Asks Protesters To Get Tested Wednesday For COVID-19

Protests have been raging across the United States in response to the death of 46-year-old George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. Hundreds of thousands angered Americans have taken to the streets and are gathering all around the country. While there is a justified reason for people to be out making their voices heard, the world is still in the middle of a pandemic. This has led many mayors across the country to urge their citizens to get tested for coronavirus. The Mayor of Atlanta, along with the mayors of Denver, Chicago, Minneapolis, and a dozen other U.S. cities are asking people to get tested 48 hours after protesting.

Now, we are hearing from Representative Veronica Escobar who is urging El Pasoans who were protesting on Sunday to go and get tested on Wednesday. The 48-hour window will have elapsed at that time and results could show if someone has contracted COVID-19, even if they are asymptomatic. Rep. Escobar also gave information that there are four free testing sites in El Paso. To sign up, you can head to the EP Strong Testing website. This morning, the City of El Paso announced an additional 3 COVID-19 deaths this morning, bringing the city's total COVID-19 deaths to 83. The city has 39 new cases of COVID-19 bringing El Paso County's total to 2,833. According to the city, 1,704 people have recovered from the virus and there are 1,046 active cases currently within the county.
