The Ultimate 4-National-Park Road Trip From El Paso

One of my favorite things about living in El Paso is that sometimes we forget just how incredible our backyard really is.

Sure, we don't have beaches or towering forests, but within a day's drive you can find white sand dunes that look like snow, one of the largest cave systems on Earth, the highest point in Texas and some of the darkest skies in the country.

When you stop and think about it, El Paso might just be one of the best home bases in the Southwest for an unforgettable national parks road trip. And if you're looking for one last adventure before summer comes to an end, this one deserves a spot on your list.

White Sands and Carlsbad Never Get Old

I've been lucky enough to visit both White Sands National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and every trip has felt a little different.

White Sands never gets old. Whether you're hiking across the bright gypsum dunes or catching the sunset, it's one of those places that always leaves me in awe.

Carlsbad is the complete opposite experience, taking you deep underground into a massive cave system that's even more impressive in person than it is in photos.

That's probably why I immediately stopped scrolling when I came across an Instagram Reel from travel creators Kelley and Carl's Adventures.

The couple documented a road trip that included White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains and Big Bend National Park- all within about five hours of El Paso. Watching it was a great reminder that people travel from all over to see places we have practically in our own backyard.

This Might Be My Next Road Trip

As much as I love revisiting White Sands and Carlsbad, I've never made it to Guadalupe Mountains or Big Bend.

After watching Kelley and Carl's adventure, though, I think I know what my next road trip is going to be.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking for our next vacation that we forget some of the country's most incredible destinations are just a few hours from El Paso. If you're hoping to squeeze in one more adventure before summer ends, this might be the perfect excuse to hit the road.
