Remember When Nine Inch Nails Filmed A Video Album in El Paso
It's been a while since we've seen Nine Inch Nails in El Paso. Since 1991, they've come here a total of at least 4 times with the most recent being back in 2013. Someone even posted the setlist & the flyer for the 1991 Club 101 show that you can check out here.
But the performance I'm interested in was their 2006 performance. Over 15 years ago Nine Inch Nails came to the El Paso County Coliseum as part of their With Teeth Tour when they came here March 30th, 2006.
What album did Nine Inch Nail record in El Paso?
Anyone who went probably noticed the cameras around the inside. Turns out they filmed that show along with the March 28th, Oklahoma City show. The end result would become their 2007 Beside You In Time live video album.
Fun fact: they actually performed 22 songs in El Paso; 19 made the final cut.
Thanks to YouTube, we can see the whole show & see Trent Reznor's (and everyone's!) energy during that tour.
If you need even further proof that they recorded in El Paso, if you look at the credits on the final song, Head Like A Hole at the 7 minute mark, you can see the band thanking to all the crew who helped set up their El Paso show & the El Paso County Coliseum in the "Special Thanks" section.
But what I'm curious about... is which songs had the El Paso footage that was used in the movie? If you find the videos on the official NIN YouTube channel, it tells you the title of the song & the year it was recorded live. But... not the location.
After looking online & asking friends who have seen the DVD, and they can't tell which songs had the Oklahoma footage and which the El Paso footage. They don't even say the name of the city like how many bands would (like "Thank you El Paso!" or something to that extent). However you look at the crowd at the end of Head Like A Hole, you can see a Mexican Flag in the audience.
And with El Paso being right next door to Juarez, I have a reason to believe that is at least one song confirmed that was recorded in El Paso.
Maybe one day we can get a definitive answer on which songs were recorded in El Paso that was used on Beside You In Time. But one thing is certain... they DID record here & just like when Elvis recorded a live album here, that fact will never change.
