Texas may be stalled on legalizing the loco weed but our neighbors to the west are moving towards it.

The New Mexico Senate Rules Committee voted 5-4 to pass an amendment to the New Mexico constitution known as SJR 2.  An amendment legalizing 'da mota. Senator Jerry Ortiz y Pino, sponsor of SJR 2, told the New Mexico Political Report:

“The wording is very simple, it says possession and personal use of marijuana shall be lawful for persons of 21 years of age or older.”

Next, SJR 2 must pass the senate judiciary committee and then the full senate.  Honestly though, things look good for it.  Even opponents have admitted that legalization will eventually happen.  Senator Mark Moores, who voted against SJR 2, said:

“I do think it’s coming, but we have to do it prudently.”

Being a constitutional amendment, the governor cannot veto it.  If SJR 2 passes both chambers of the house, it goes to the voters and they decide.  It's coming peeps!

Colorado, New Mexico ... could Texas be next?
