Wanna Have A Parade In Texas? Better Read This First
Halloween in El Paso isn't complete without the KLAQ Halloween parade. Have you ever thought of having your own parade? If so, know that it's complicated but very doable.
For years, the KLAQ Halloween parade has haunted the album park neighborhood in east El Paso. Starting and ending at Album Park, the parade route has drifted, or "crept" I guess, along the same route for years. Believe it or not, 2024 will be #39 - enter here.
Anyway, you can't just decide you're going to have a parade, block off some streets and call your friends over. There's a process. Whether it's the Q's Halloween parade, the annual NorthEaster parade, the El Paso Motorcycle Coalition Toy Run ... which is coming up soon, by the way ... every parade follows the same protocol.
Anyone who wants a parade CAN have one, just so you know. Rules are rules though and they vary from city to city in Texas. Step one, across the board I believe, is to get a permit. Check with your local city website on how to do that, to apply for one in El Paso, click here.
In most cases, here's the deal for El Paso, anyone who meets all the local requirements can hold a parade. It doesn't have to be limited to certain holidays or occasions. If you want to start an annual Dubba G appreciation parade, go for it. Just start with those links and let me know if I should book a band or bring beer or something.
