Texas has seemed to have a very large uptick in population in recent years. For some reason or another, many people have wanted to move to the Lone Star State and start a new home.

According to Census.gov, Texas was number one in 2022-2023 for numeric growth -- gaining 473,453 people. Its 2023 population was 30,503,301.

It's kind of crazy to think about how Texas is the second most populous state in America, beaten only by California. You can't deny that the Lone Star State has a lot to offer. I'm a firm believer that there's something for everyone in Texas, no matter if you prefer city life or small-town living; beaches or deserts; and everything else in between.

While Texas continues to grow, not all cities are gaining people at the same rate.

Texas' fastest-growing cities aren't what you'd think

Many people might immediately believe Dallas, Austin, or Houston to be the fastest growing. While each city has a large population, some lesser-known cities grew at a much faster pace.

For example, according to kxan, from 2020 - 2023 Dallas saw a small drop in population, and Austin only slightly grew from 965,827 to 979,882. Compared to other, smaller cities that grew by up to 215%.

What cities did grow the fastest?

Some of the most rapidly growing cities in the period of 2020 to 2023 may not be any you've heard of. I knew a few off of the list, but there were several I didn't know existed.

Each of them grew anywhere from 215% to 60%, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau. And while a couple of these growing cities have relatively small populations, you can't overlook their growth!

Looking at this data, it seems maybe people are starting to prefer small-town living over the big city. Leaving the bustling cities for peaceful, close-knit communities. And I honestly can't argue that something is charming about a small to medium-sized city.

Would you move to any of these growing places in Texas?
