Moonwalking Through Texas: Michael Jackson’s Unforgettable Shows
Michael Joseph Michael was & forever will be regarded as the King of Pop. He has become beloved by fans all over the world & has given some of the greatest performances ever from a popstar. That includes some of his shows in Texas (when he wasn't shopping at the mall). He's given many amazing shows during the 80s so let's look back on some iconic Michael Jackson performances.
Michael's iconic Texas shows with The Jacksons
Michael has performed with his family with The Jacksons a whopping 27 times in cities such as Irving, San Antonio, Dallas & Houston. There IS footage of the July 11th, 1984 show at the Reunion Arena in Dallas. This performance includes a memorable special guest appearance from Eddie Van Halen when performing "Beat It". He appeared on the studio so it made sense that he showed up on the live version too.
Another performance you can watch (partially) online was their November 9th & 10th shows in Houston. If you want to see more videos from The Jacksons' 1984 Victory Tour, you can see the whole YouTube playlist here.
There were more iconic Texas performances during his solo career
Michael would return to the Lone Star state to perform in 1988 during his Bad World Tour. He would perform at least 6 times in the month of April:
- April 8-10, 1988 at the Summit in Houston
- & April 25-27 at the Reunion Arena in Dallas
While footage of the Dallas concerts are hard to find, there IS footage of the Houston concerts. Huge thanks to the YouTube channel "MJ Live & Rare Videos" for archiving this footage.
Sadly MJ wouldn't perform many shows in Texas in the 90s; however I think it would be wrong if I didn't mention the time where he would perform during the halftime show at Super Bowl XXVII; where the Dallas Cowboys would end up beating the Buffalo Bills. While not IN Texas, it was worth an honorable mention. Sadly I can't include the video here but you can watch the whole show on YouTube here.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson...
