First of all, we can all agree that the McNuggets at McDonald's are perfect the way they are, right? Well, now, for the first time in almost 40 years, McDonald's is giving the original McNugget a 2020 upgrade: they're going to give us SPICY. McNUGGETS!

According to this Tweet, we can expect the Spicy Chicken McNuggets to debut on September 16. Apparently this is the first nugget flavor since McDonald's debuted them back in 1983; side note, did you know that McNuggets were introduced to the menu back in 1983? Now you do.

Along with the Spicy McNuggets announcement, McDonald's also informed us that they will be releasing a new dipping sauce as well called called Mighty Hot Sauce. The sauce, to also debut on September 16, is made of a blend of crushed red peppers and chilis.

According to Business Insider, fast food fried chicken has seen a big boom during this pandemic. Unsurprisingly it can be traced back to the epic chicken sandwich boom from Popeyes- a sandwich I still haven't gotten to taste! Business Insiders says that while restaurants saw a drop in sales during the pandemic, chicken chains like Popeyes and Wingstop saw a big growth. Last year, Wendy's brought back their spicy chicken nuggets and people loved them! According to CNN, McDonald's revenue went down 30% last quarter so the rollout of spicy McNuggets is a way to bring customers back.

As if the announcement of the spicy McNuggets wasn't enought, Mickey D's also announced that they're debuting a new McFlurry flavor- Chips Ahoy! According to the chain, the McFlurry will feature vanilla soft-serve, caramel topping, and cookies. So, I know what I'll be doing on September 16th, now my only question is- with "Mulan" making a comeback, what are the chances we'll get that szechuan sauce?
