Marilyn Manson Parts Ways with Bassist Twiggy Ramirez After Rape Allegation
Several days after allegations of rape and abuse against Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy Ramirez, Manson has announced Ramirez's departure from the band's lineup.
Ramirez — whose real name is Jeordie White — has been accused by his ex-girlfriend, former Jack Off Jill singer Jessicka Adams, of beating and sexually assaulting her during their relationship. Adams recounted her experiences in a recent Facebook post, describing a pattern of abusive behavior that culminated in rape. She also outlined her reasons for keeping quiet at the time, including a fear of professional retribution against her band at a pivotal moment in their career.
Manson seemed stunned by Adams' post when it surfaced, issuing a statement insisting he'd known nothing about the abuse and describing himself as "saddened by Jessicka’s obvious distress." He followed that up with an Oct. 24 announcement, posted through his official social media channels, letting fans and followers know that Ramirez was no longer in the band.
"I have decided to part ways with Jeordie White as a member of Marilyn Manson," the post reads. "He will be replaced for the upcoming tour. I wish him well."
Later in the day, White offered the following statement, as reported by Consequence of Sound: “I have only recently been made aware of these allegations from over 20 years ago. I do not condone non-consensual sex of any kind. I will be taking some time to spend with my family and focus on maintaining my several years of sobriety. If i have caused anyone pain I apologize and truly regret it.”
White had been part of Manson's musical entourage for much of the last 24 years. He joined the group in 1993 and stayed for a decade, then returned in 2008. He and Adams also performed with Manson in the short-lived side project Mrs. Scabtree, which featured Manson on drums with Adams and White handling vocals.
