confined prisoner

Desperate for medical attention, a North Carolina man reportedly tried to solve his problems by committing a crime. James Verone was arrested last Thursday for attempting to rob a bank in Gastonia. The 59-year-old handed a teller a note demanding one dollar, and then sat in a chair waiting for police. Verone says he has no medical insurance, but is suffering from a growth on his chest, two ruptured disks, and a bad left foot. He figured prison would be the only place he could go to have his needs addressed. Verone hopes to serve three years so that he will be able to collect social security when he's released. There is, however, one flaw in his plan. Since he was only seeking one dollar and wasn't armed, he's likely to get a relatively short sentence.
