‘Lord of the Rings’ Expert Will Decide Turkish Man’s Fate

This story gets weirder and weirder and even the president of Turkey is involved!

A man in Turkey will have his fate decided by a panel of Lord of the Rings experts who will have a huge part deciding if that man will go to jail.

Why?

Because of a tweet he sent out, that was critical of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Not even that critical, more speculating on his appearance, but the president doesn't take kindly to people making fun of him. The Turkish President once tried to have Twitter banned for people using the medium to be critical of him.

Check out the meme below where the Turkish President is compared to Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Is that critical, rude or even a negative thing to begin with?

This is what the Lord of the Rings experts will have to decide. The man, who s a doctor in Turkey, came up with a brilliant Hail Mary defense to try and keep him from going to jail. His argument is that it is actually a compliment to say you look like Gollum, since Gollum in the end is actually a hero.

I really wish the man and his defense luck and hope that these experts side with the doctor, not because he's right or wrong, but because sending someone to jail over a meme is wrong. Read more about this story on UPROXX.
