A local filmmaker has become a finalist in a screenplay contest at the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival!

"Among Us", a screenplay by El Pasoan Arturo Portillo, has been entered in the 2019 Cannes Screenplay contest.  You can buy the screenplay here.

Arturo also recently premiered his feature film, "Beaten".  According to Arturo, it's "about a hired hitman who seeks to avenge the death of his fiancée when she is gunned down in a crossfire aimed at her brother, Redd; who the hitman teams up with later on."

Arturo added Beaten was:

filmed in El Paso with local talent and crew. We screened it last week on March 27th, at the Northeast cinema. I sold out within two days. The movie is still in film festivals throughout this year until November 2019. So far, it's been selected into a few festivals as either a Semi-Finalist or a Finalist. I still am awaiting the results. There are over 40 festivals I've submitted to.

Read a review of Beaten here. Good luck in all those contests Arturo!
